The Brookfield Board of Education has approved a proposed 4.07% increase for the 2022 annual school budget of $47.3 million. Board members noted that approximately 3/4 of the 4.07% increase was due to contracted and inflationary increases such as health insurance premiums and wages. The proposed school budget is expected to be presented to the voters at an annual referendum. Last year, the approval process was moved by Governor Lamont's executive order to the state's local Boards of Finance. Since a normal voting process took place in November, it is widely expected that the budget approval process will return to its normal method this year.
